St. Patrick\'s Day is celebrated in the honor of the saint of Ireland. This day is celebrated on March 17. People enjoy this day and celebrate it with great enthusiasm. In fond memories of Ireland, people wear green and the Americans dance on Irish jig, March in parades and together sing lots of Irish songs.

This day March 17 is the day St. Patrick died and does not refer to his birth date. However, his birth date is unknown, but scholars believe that he was born in 385 AD. St. Patrick studied religion in the aim of becoming a priest and went to Ireland to impart knowledge about God.

There are lots of stories about this saint and among these stories some are true and some are not accepted as truth. Some famous legends prove to be very true. Many send flowers on St.Patrick’s day in respect of the dead saint. Saint Patrick’s Day is also colloquially known as an annual feast day or St.Paddy’s day.

This is observed as the national holiday in Ireland. Montserrat also observed Saint Patrick’s Day as a public holiday and this is also observed in Northern Ireland as a bank holiday. The republic of Ireland as well have a public holiday, while UK, Canada, Australia, Argentina, United States and New Zealand do not have an official holiday.

However, they celebrate this day widely. This day is observed as a holy day by the Roman Catholics in Ireland. This day of obligation falls in the lent period. In case, the St. Patrick’s Day falls on the Lent Friday, people abstain from meat eating.

Saint Patrick’s Day is known worldwide by Irish descent and is gaining more popularity among other ethnicities also notably in Australia, Argentina, North America and New Zealand. Christians and non-Christians observe this day as a secular version and wear green, eat green and Irish foods. They also drink Irish drink and attend parades. People send flowers on St.Patrick’s Day to the church as prayer.
