January 1, is observed as the New Year’s Day and witnesses an immense annual celebration throughout the world. This day is welcomed with open arms, new dreams such that everyone’s heart is satiated with more expectations. The celebration represents a pre-historic root, yet there is diversity in various parts of the world owing to the cultural and ethnic differences. However, now it is widely accepted and January 1 is confined as the only New Year. This day is observed to greet the harvest seasons and symbolically it represents the renewal of life. Traditionally, the first day is spend among friends and family in the thought that if the beginning is well all that ends will as well have a happy ending. The main custom of this day is to visit friends, exchange gifts and send flowers on the New Year’s Day as a token of good wishes. It is certainly a gala time with enormous feasts. Even today, the New Year is been linked with the tradition of gift giving. Though, Christmas is prominent for gift giving, yet, many parts of the world part gifts to each other. The holiday mood sets from the before night and majority of them wish each other for the forthcoming New Year to be happy and prosperous before itself. New Year greetings are a way of conveying hope for happiness and renewed life. Screaming wishes of a new year is a way of following the age old tradition of frightening the demons threatening the future. The eve of New Year’s party regardless of the place is noisy, gay and glittery. The high spirits, bright colors, loud music and festive foods make the night filled with frivolity and fun. People unable to attend party also offer their greetings by sending flowers on the New Year’s Day. The tradition of visiting relatives, neighbors and relatives is followed. The guests arriving at the party dress appealingly and the party is the right place to cement kinship with the customary drinks and traditional dinner. |
