Mother’s day is very special and is celebrated in the month of May on the second Sunday. The children in America treat their mothers with great respect. This day all the children, young or old try to express their appreciation to their mothers in a unique way.
England was the first country to recognize mothers and to set a day in recognition of her non-compromising services, love and affection. Though, many women worked as household servants for opulent families, they reserved the mothering Sunday to enjoy the day with their mothers.
Mother’s day was not declared until 1914 as an official holiday. Anna Jarvis had great respect for her mother and their garden and hence after her mother’s death she wished to honor her on her death date May 5th.
Mother’s day gained importance and now it is being observed with great sincerity. The American children serve the mothers with breakfast in their bed and give self made gifts to their mothers. They also buy gifts from stores or send flowers on mother’s day, if they are staying at far away places.
Adults also present red carnations to their mothers as this is the official flower of mother’s day. For deceased mothers white flowers are placed on the grave sites. In fact, this is the busiest day for all the American restaurants. The mother’s day is very special to all moms, and they are not asked to cook dinner. They are treated like queens.
Mother’s day is a wonderful day as this reunites families that are far spread owing to several reasons. Sending flowers on Mothers day became a regular practice, especially carnation flowers in red were highly promoted. Only for the mothers who were dead were offered white flowers.
This day is also promoted in the churches. In this way the bond between children and mothers remain strong and nourished. Moreover, children also get an opportunity to serve their mothers and they feel gratified. |
