Memorial Day

Memorial Day is celebrated in the month of May on fourth Monday. This day is celebrated to honor the dead. This was actually originated after the civil war and is viewed as an important day as on this day the dead people of wars and the others who have died generally are being remembered.

Special programs are held in churches, cemeteries and many other meeting places. This holiday is a day that is reserved in honor of the people who no more survive. This day flowers and flags are placed on the soldiers’ grave that lost their lives in the American civil war.

Apart from these soldiers as well, the others who are no more are also send flowers on Memorial Day as a respect. In this manner all the dead are remembered.The Memorial Day was declared as a holiday in 1971.

This falls on the last Monday in the month of May and all the cities in and around United States hold ceremonies to pay respect to women and men who sacrificed their lives in wars or serving the country. Special ceremonies are also conducted in many communities at the monuments or the cemeteries for the dead by the military service veterans.

People unable to come personally send flowers on Memorial Day as a token of respect. Programs in churches and parades are held in memorial services. This day is not confined to honor only the Americans belonging to the armed forces, as this day also is called for personal remembrance.

Individuals and families honor their loved ones memories and visit the cemetery as well as the church services. The graves of the dead are decorated with flowers and a silent tribute is maintained as a mark of solemnity and dignity.

The vice president or the president of US lays wreath on the tombs and gives a speech. The families and veterans come to say prayers as well as to lay their wreaths. This is the day of reflection as it brings the thoughts of the dead who have once lived and have lost their lives for good cause.
