Kwanzaa

26 December, 2010, Sunday

Kwanzaa was initially celebrated in California in the year 1966. This represents an African- America holiday that is celebrated to identify and comprehend the goodness of life and to replicate the role of the African American in the history, their commitment towards liberation as well as the improvement of life.

Kwanzaa is observed from December 26 to January 1 and the arrangements, the preparations are done well in advance. Nearly two weeks in advance initiatives are taken to celebrate this festive. This festive is based on core principles such as unity, self determination, responsibility, collective work, purpose, creativity and faith.

Kwanzaa refers to the harvest celebration and the families take this as a great opportunity to tell and retell the past stores regarding their ancestors as well as their contemporaries to the current generation. This is done so that the ancestors are honored and reclaiming the birthright is one such significant aspect.

The harvest resolves the recommitment and direction for the coming year. Colors such as black, red and green denote important aspects of this tradition and history. Green represents advancement and growth, while the red is an indication of struggle and blood shed during struggles. Black represents unity. Send flowers on Kwanzaa so that the freshness of the flowers indicates the people to live blossomed and cheerful always.

There are few more symbols of Kwanzaa such as the flag of black symbolizing the liberation struggle. The word harambee represents a unity call that is used to greet everyone, tambiko denotes special honor and kwaheri expresses parting. This festive indicates functions to the next generation such that nourish the ancestors as it is the main responsibility.

On the second last day all the family members are called to enjoy fun, music and feast and on the eventual Kwanzaa day a theme are developed so that the difficulties are transformed into a successful path. On this day, one can send flowers on Kwanzaa day to encourage their self determination and encourage growth to attain success. Even meaningful gifts are exchanged.
