Halloween is a holiday enjoyed at night. This is the solitude night that the world of a child turned to fantasy. This festival encourages the children to take active participation and the adults only take the supporting roles.
The children are also motivated by their teachers and merchants. Children aged between three and eleven years old begin their preparation some weeks prior to Halloween.
Parents take a vital part and involve in preparing costumes and decorations along with their children. The costumes take a lot of time as this includes masked frightening visions, tall pointed hats, long black dresses and magic broomsticks.
Apart from this the parents have to pretend of being mystified or frightened of the masked visions appearing suddenly.The custom of celebrating Halloween is gay and frolic as children appear with false faces such as ghost costumes or witches hats asking for Treat or Trick.
They walk on the rooftops and their costumes has skull with crossbones painted, while some carry lanterns and resemble ghosts swathed in sheets. Sometimes, the teenagers play rough pranks by hurling tomatoes or eggs at passing motorists or end up by marking the windshields and windows with hard to erase items.
Nowadays school dances are organized to divert youthful pranksters and many business firms also give prizes for best costumes, decorations and entertainment. The refreshments of this day are popcorn, apple cider and pumpkin pie. Especially, spicy ginger cookies witches represent the theme of that day.
Halloween is celebrated on October 31 and this day as well has its origin dating back to hundreds of years. The belief is that all the dead souls were sent to Druid heaven on this day. This is the reason that the modern Halloween acquires the paraphernalia of witches, cats, skeletons, ghosts, masks, bonfires and goblins.
The bonfires were lit to honor the sun god and the evil spirits were frightened away. Adults enjoy the activities of the children and ensure that they have stocked lots of cookies, fruits and candy to offer the masked ghost when their door is knocked. |
