Good Friday

1 April, 2010, Thursday

Good Friday is referred to as a Holy Friday, a Great Friday or even as a Black Friday. This is a declared holiday and is observed by the Christians as a day to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus as well as his death at Cavalry.

This day is observed as a holiday and falls on the preceding Friday to Easter Sunday. This also gets coincided with the Jewish Passover observance. This falls within the holy week and is observed during the period of penance and fasting.

Christians are staunch followers and do not consider this as an historical event, but believe it with devotion as the sacrificial death of God Christ.

The worship services of Good Friday initiates in the afternoon by 3.00 as this is the time that is believed to have been the death time of Jesus. There are numerous customs and traditions associated and the singing is of gospel is an integral part of this prayer.

Sending flowers on Good Friday to the church is also regular and Christians kneel before the wooden cross and pray. This day relates to ancient practice and every Christian observes this day with great devotion. The entire church looks only at the Calvary Cross and comprehends the cost of Christ’s redemption.

Only the presanctified mass is held as service on that day and the organ is kept silent from Thursday. The unaccompanied chant is the only music during this period.

Good Friday is observed as the solemn day in the remembrance of their lord Jesus and the prayer reveals the depth of the loss through the mass. This also brings forth the triumph over death that Lord Jesus has and the joy and blessing received as a source.

The prayers and sending flowers on Good Friday holds all the Christians and non-Christians together in a deep mood. The cross and its value can be understood well when the mass held on Good Friday is attended. The blessings received are surely a bliss.
