From the year 1777 to the year 1960, June 14, this flag underwent 27 changes in the face. The stripes and stars were constantly undergoing changes. The maximum number of times it underwent changes owing to the number of stars.

The reality was that with every state getting annexed to the union, the flag had to undergo changes in the number of stars. The history of this Flag Day is a lengthy process. This day is a sustained effort and is observed with zeal and fervor as the Flag Day.

Flag Day existed from 1877 and celebrating it as a public celebration originated in 1885. The forerunner of celebrating the Flag Day was of the Wisconsin Public School teacher, B.J.Cigrand, who organized and observed this special day.

The Flag Day was celebrated to inspire as well as educate children of the school to develop a love and spirit for the nation. Cigrand advocated this observance through various newspaper articles, public addresses and magazines.

Another kindergarten teacher, George Balch also presented the idea of celebrating June 14 as the Flag Day. Slowly, after many resolutions, this day was observed with sincerity and the flags were displayed and children were given a small flag.

Now, the Flag Day wishes are sent through greeting cards and wall papers. Sending flowers on Flag Day is also one of the best ways of celebration. The schools observe Flag Day and exercises are held.

The assembled school children were distributed a small flag and addresses were delivered. Patriotic songs were also a part of this day. The popularity of this day increased to a great extent to more states and localities. This day is celebrated throughout the nation and each others can greet this by sending flowers on Flag Day.
