Easter Sunday

3 April, 2010, Saturday

Easter is celebrated on a spring Sunday and this varies every year. This is celebrated in the resurrection of Christ. Easter is a revered day as they offer religious services and family gathering and hence is very important for the Christians. Americans also follow the hard boiled eggs coloring and offer candy baskets to children.

Easter mostly falls in March or April Sunday. Millions of people come together on parks, hilltops and churches to salute Easter dawn. There is a joy and hope as the earth revives to a new spring and life such as fresh grass, young lambs and delicate blooms. The days grow long and the sun offers warmth.

Easter Sunday is observed to be the holiest days as it focuses the resurrection of Christ from the tomb. Three days Christ was laid after his crucifixion and he rose only to sustain his promise of eternal life. Easter relates to the events of Christ life and even the older traditions influence the customs of festival.

The name is acquired from the Norse festival that celebrates the awakening of new life. The Easter actually replaced pagan festival by retaining few rites of spring. People send flowers on Easter Sunday as a devotion to Christ. This was a festival that the Christians believed that it should be done on Sunday as this was the day that Christ came from the grave.

Easter is celebrated world-wide and the customs vary as per the difference in the ethnic heritage. The devout Christians confessed their sins one day prior to the initiation of the Lent. This was observed with a forty day fast.

The events of crucifixion have been commemorated and hence are called as holy week. Music is an indispensable part of the services of the holy week and the organ music reverberate the church with expressions of praise. Being a holy festival, many bring or send flowers on Easter Sunday to pay homage to the lord, Jesus Christ.
