Birds of Paradise are called as Crane flowers and are the exotic flowers. These flowers have their origin in South Africa. Their period of blooming is from September to May. These flowers are identical to the bight colored bird in the flight and hence it has acquired this name as Birds of Paradise.

They are medium-sized and evoke palm trees. They last at the most for a week. The spectacular shape of the flower resembles a beak as well as the head plumage of the bird. This belongs to Musaceae, the banana family as the leaves have the shape of a banana.

The popular species of these flowers are Strelitzia alba, Sterlitzia Caudata, Strelitzia nicolai and Strelitzia reginae. The birds of paradise plants need moistness, but also should be kept dry. Avoiding temperatures lesser than 50 degrees is recommended. However, these plants need indoor temperatures. These plants require good sunlight and also regular watering.
